Pain. Resentment. Numbness. Rebirth.
“The Socialized Experiment: Phase II” is the print portion of the “Socialized Experiment.” In this project, the subjects are covered in a charcoal and petroleum jelly or “grease paint,” similar to the face paint used in blackface minstrel shows of the mid nineteenth century. The subjects are instructed to move slowly and methodically. This movement allows the subject to become the creator and creation, as the paint is transferred from their body to the canvas, creating a semi-symmetric pattern
The inkblot is created to give the viewer pause and allow the viewer space to project their own ideas and stories.
